Crispin Cioe has scored and written songs for a number of films, and was the featured arranger and soloist for the '98 Paramount release The Real Blonde, directed by Tom DiCillo and starring Darryl Hannah and Matthew Modine. A contemporary comedy set in Manhattan, The Real Blonde centers on Joe (Matthew Modine), a struggling actor, and Mary (Catherine Keener), a successful high-fashion makeup artist. The tension in their relationship is nearing a boiling point. Meanwhile, Joe's actor/catering buddy Bob (Maxwell Caulfield) lands a starring role on a soap in his consuming quest for true love, symbolized in his mind only by sleeping with a "real blonde."
Crispin produced and co-wrote 22 songs for the independent feature film Burnzy's Last Call (aired regularly on the Sundance Channel), working with such singers as Debbie Harry, Evan Dando, David Johansen, Graham Parker, Buster Poindexter, the Smithereens, and Lou Christie. On May 9, 1994, Tessa flew to Houston to receive a million-dollar trust fund from her father. Six months later, she went back with a movie camera. The film is her portrait of an 88-year-old man with a trail of Texas Exes: Houston oil man, Hollywood playboy, hotshot lawyer and serial monogamist Tommy Blake. On a quirky and intimate journey, a daughter looks beyond myth, money, and society -- and all that hair -- in seeking the truth of her father. The film was selected as an Outstanding Documentary of 1999 by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences, and has aired on the Showtime network.
Crispin composed and produced two songs for the 2001 feature film Blue Moon, Crispin has also played sax on scores for such films as the Coen Bros' Blood Simple, Abel Ferrera's The Funeral, and the Academy Award-winning documentary When We Were Kings.
